I am a photographer based in Nairobi, Kenya with over five years of experience conducting pregnancy, birth, postpartum, adoption, and remembrance sessions in the United States, Uganda, and Ethiopia. I operate from an authentic, detail oriented, and photo-journalistic style. I received my first DSLR camera in 2008 however, I didn't start photographing maternity until nine years later when I vowed to pursue the concept of being “untied” or “untethered” as a New Year's resolution. Because the labor and delivery process so clearly emulates these notions, through the baby's departure from the womb and the severing of the chord, I set out on a photographic journey. I love this line of work for its spontaneity, rawness, and joy. These organic moments remind me that pain always has a purpose. To bring forth new life. But what happens after the arrival of new life? As both a photographer and a therapist, I use image capturing as a vehicle for women to process their pregnancy and birth stories, normalize the often difficult postpartum period, celebrate adoption, and cope with loss.
