My name is Rachel Crawford and I am a birth photographer based in Charlotte, NC. I specialize in birth, postpartum, adoption, and humanitarian photography. My style is very real and my work emulates that of photojournalism. I started photographing births not too long after I made a New Year's resolution in 2016. I vowed to explore my curiosity about the process of birthing babies and my desire to capture it. At that particular time in my life, I was coming to terms with the concept of being "untied" or "untethered."
Because the labor and delivery process so clearly emulates these notions, through the baby's departure from the womb and the severing of the chord, I set out on a photographic journey. I love this line of work for its spontaneity, rawness, and utter joy. These organic moments remind me that pain always has a purpose. To bring forth new life. I have also grown to love both maternal as well as infant and early childhood mental health advocacy. As a partner of a pregnancy, parenting, and postpartum support community called Numa by way of 110 Main Collective, I have been given the opportunity to empower women as they walk through the vulnerable weeks and months after giving their all to produce new life.
